Employer FAQs

What does the counsellor do?

First and foremost, the counsellor is there to listen to you. Consultations are held in a safe and private space where a climate free of judgment is created so that the client will feel comfortable addressing their concerns. The goal is to help the client find the best way to understand and resolve their issues.

The clients’ wants and needs are the main focus of consultations, and our counsellors endeavor to create a safe and comfortable environment. If the client does not feel comfortable in an in-person consultation, our counsellors will provide consultations over the telephone or via video conferencing if this arrangement is better suited to them.

Am I able to speak with an counsellor on behalf of an employee?

Unless the employee gives expressed written consent authorizing their information to be shared, the counsellor is not authorized to discuss anything with an employer. However, employers can discuss with the EFAP representatives to learn how they can improve and maintain their employees well-being. Individual cases cannot be discussed without the explicit consent of all parties involved.

Can Labelle Centre’s EFAP be used for disciplinary action?

Absolutely not. Employees choose to access Employment and Family Assistance Program’s services on their own. Employers can only share the EFAP’s information with their employees and encourage them to use the services. It is up to the employee to decide whether or not to use the services.

Can a member of the CLC team come to our workplace and explain how the EFAP works?

Yes, one of our employees can come at your request to inform you and your staff of the services the EFAP has to offer. They can also develop new presentations to meet the more specific needs you may have. Please see EFAP Services for more information.

How can we as employers encourage our employees to attend the workshops provided by the EFAP program?

A great way to encourage your employees is to offer workshops on work hours or holding luncheons.

Will I get any feedback about this service?

Organizations enrolled in the Employee and Family Assistance Program will receive data on the program’s use. To maintain client confidentiality, organizations with fewer than 50 employees will only have access to regional data.

What is counselling?

Counselling is a process occurring through conversations that brings positive changes to the life and well-being of the client. In-person consultations are the CLC’s preferred way of working with a client as they are better suited to any situation or problem. They are often considered to be more comforting and effective.
