ASIST

ASIST is a 2-day training on immediate suicide intervention. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop—anyone 18 or older can learn and use the ASIST model. Attending this two-day course will train you to intervene with an individual who is thinking about suicide.

During their two-day training, participants will learn to:

  • Understand how personal and societal attitudes affect people's views on suicide and interventions

  • Provide suicide counselling and first aid to a person at risk in a way that meets their individual safety needs 2

  • Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and actions needed to implement it

  • Appreciate the value of integrating suicide prevention resources into the community in general

  • Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention, including the promotion of life and self-care

The Working Minds

The Working Minds training aims at reducing the stigmatization surrounding mental health in the workplace. Knowing that one in five people will suffer from mental health problems at some point, it is inevitable that this will have work-related implications as well as huge cost impacts. However, it can be difficult or awkward to have a discussion with a colleague or an employee when the subject needs to be addressed. This training offers you tools and strategies to promote healthy mental health practices with the employees you work with as well as with yourself. This training is offered in person or virtually with a group of employees (3.5 hours training) or with an approach specific to members of management (8 hours training).
